I believe in the power of a story to pay it forward and be told over and over again.
In today’s world, people have access to tons of content they can be entertained by and engage with. We consume a lot of information, and most of it isn’t memorable.
During my PhD, I was introduced to the book Storyteller by Leslie Marmon Silko. Silko’s collection of short stories showed me the power of oral storytelling from her Laguna Pueblo tribe from New Mexico. Stories of hers showed how their tribe handed down stories from generation to generation that reached across hundreds of years. Oral storytelling in Native cultures across the Americas acts as a transformative way to remember the past and develop sustainable futures.
One of my favorite American novels, Absalom, Absalom! by William Faulkner, is a book told through oral storytelling. The main character Quentin Compson is told the story of the slaveowner Thomas Sutpen through conversations with his family.
Stories we tell and communicate to each other have the power to convey a message both compelling and memorable. Your audience is incisive and savvy. Let’s build confidence through storytelling to create quality content on a consistent basis. Tell a story that gets folks in your niche to want to know more about you.

It’s important in our world to recognize people from all walks of life through inclusive practices with a focus on accessibility.
In the US, we often mythologize and whitewash our history without recognizing the significant contributions made by Blacks, Indigenous, Asian Americans, Latino, and many others.
When we celebrate diversity and inclusion, our world becomes bigger, culturally vibrant, more tolerant and creates public policy that benefits all, not just the few.
